Coconut Flat Bread


This is a traditional Sri Lankan dish. It’s really simple and can be made within 10 minutes. You can even freeze them for about a week and just re-heat them up on a day you’re feeling lazy!

It’s quite filling. Best served with a hot and spicy chicken curry or even with dhal. My next few posts might be on recipes from my home country Sri Lanka and I really hope everyone will enjoy them.

Ingredients:

500 g of flour

1/2 a scraped coconut

50 g margarine

2 1/2 tsp salt

water

5 chopped curry leaves

2 chopped onions

1/2 tsp Chilli pieces ( red)

1/2 pepper powder

4 chopped green chillies

 

Method :

1.Put scraped coconut and flour into large bowl, and add curry leaves, onion, chillie pieces, pepper, green chilli,salt and mix for a minute or two.

2.Then add margarine and mix for about 2 minute,  add  the water little by little and mix well until it makes a whole dough (this takes about 4 minutes).

3.Make small balls and flatten them on a board using your hand,a circle of around 10-12 cm in diameter and about 1/4 inch thick .

4. Finally heat a nonstick pan ( a flat stainless steel pan) fry the flat bread on both sides till they are slightly burnt ( this so that the inside also gets cooked)
